Erbs Palsy Compensation Claims SolicitorsOur clinical negligence solicitors and litigation lawyers have won the following erbs palsy claim:
More details of this win which has provided a better future for our clients can be found under our case wins section. Erbs Palsy is a condition which often results from the baby's shoulder becoming stuck in the mother's pelvis – known as shoulder dystocia – during the course of delivery. It is a particular risk in large babies and for mothers with diabetes. Injury is caused to a nerve in the shoulder, the brachial plexus. Those affected by the condition have limited mobility in their shoulder which in turn affects their ability to use the affected arm. Brachial plexus injuries of this type can often be avoided if midwives and obstetric recognise cases where there is a particular risk of shoulder dystocia and arrange for caesarean section or use well recognised procedures to release the shoulder in the event of shoulder dystocia. When our clinical negligence solicitors investigate these cases on behalf of families we often find that staff have failed to recognise the risk or have not used the correct procedures. In these cases we are able to obtain compensation for the injuries suffered. The compensation can include funds for adaptations to allow the child to use everyday items both now and in the future.
