Data Protection Solicitors

The Data Protection Act 1998 covers all "processing" of personal data in the UK. So whether your business is storing, using, copying, transferring, deleting or otherwise dealing with personal data, such actions will almost certainly fall within the terms of the Data Protection Act. With this in mind, your business should be fully aware of the provisions of the Data Protection Act and have all appropriate policies, processes and procedures in place to ensure full compliance with this wide-reaching legislation.

Our data protection solicitors have significant experience and expertise in guiding and advising clients on the application of the Data Protection Act. Our proactive and expert approach will ensure your business is fully compliant with the terms of the Act. We also have considerable expertise in resolving disputes surrounding data protection and in responding to and defending claims for breach of the Data Protection Act.

Privacy Regulations
European legislation has developed significantly over the past decade to protect consumers who purchase goods and services over the internet, the telephone or by other non face-to-face means, or who simply register their details with websites to access information. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (known as the Privacy Regulations) protect consumers against unauthorised use of their e-mail addresses, telephone numbers and facsimile numbers. Our data protection solicitors have considerable knowledge in drafting privacy policies and advising on compliance with the Privacy Regulations.

Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act grants persons and entities the right to require public bodies to disclose information pursuant to an information request. Our data protection solicitors understand that handling a Freedom of Information request can be complicated, take up time and have reputational issues if dealt with incorrectly. Our expert team can relieve you of these pressures by analysing a request and advising your organisation in light of the complex legislation. With our specialist experience we will ensure your organisation is taking the right steps needed to conform to the Freedom of Information Act when faced with an information request.
