- Birth injuries are most common around the time of delivery or soon after the birth. Some of the causes include:
- delay in delivery causing deprivation of oxygen
- failure to diagnose or treat low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
- failure to diagnose or treat jaundice (hyperbilirubinemia and kernicterus)
- the baby’s shoulder becoming stuck during causing injury to the baby’s brachial plexus and erbs palsy
