Availability of financial assistance
As well as making a compensation claim you may be able to obtain state benefits if you are diagnosed with a work related cancer.
The benefits you are entitled to will depend on your particular circumstances but may include:
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
- Incapacity Benefit
- Mobility Allowance
- Severe Disablement Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance
- Attendance Allowance
- Blue Disabled Parking Badge
If you already receive means tested benefits then payment of Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit may disqualify you from receiving means tested benefits. You should therefore seek specialist benefits advice.
We have a specialist disability rights advisor who can advise you on what you are entitled to from social services or from the Department of Work and Pensions.
For general benefits advice you can also contact the Citizen's Advice Bureau or the Department of Work and Pensions.
Personal injury trusts
We can ensure any compensation you do receive is safeguarded in a personal injury trust which will mean you do not lose any means tested benefits. Our dedicated Trusts team can provide you with specialist advice once your claim has settled.
Making a will/reviewing your will
If you already have a will you may wish to review it once you begin your claim for compensation bearing in mind you may receive a large sum of money if your claim is successful.
If you have not made a will we suggest making one so that your estate will be divided in accordance with your wishes.
We have a specialist Wills and Trusts team who can assist.
