Causes of Asthma

Certain dusts, gases, fumes and vapours can cause occupational asthma. The main substances known to be capable of causing asthma are:
- isocyanates – spray painting, foam moulding, adhesives, making foundry cores and surface coatings
- dust from flour and grain – baking industry, farm work and grain transport
- wood dust – carpentry, joinery and saw milling work
- colophony – found in soldering fumes, glues and some cleaners - electronics and electrical industry
- dust from latex rubber – this substance can be found in latex gloves - nursing, dentistry
