Planning, Environment, Waste & Climate Change

Our Planning team has extensive experience of working for public sector clients including local authorities and central government bodies such as the Highways Agency.

The experience extends to all related matters to enable development to be carried out including preparing S106 Obligations and advising on road closures, footpath orders, Listed Building Consents, and opposing village green applications which seek to frustrate future development. We also have extensive experience in acting where there are breaches of development control including the drafting of Enforcement and Stop Notices.

We act on compulsory purchase matters for the Highways Agency as well as for private sector clients including preparation of CPOs, the Public Inquiry and compensation claims in the Lands Tribunal, as well as Certificates of Appropriate Alternative Development. We have a longstanding track record in advising clients on major waste and energy projects.

Our Environmental and Energy team is actively involved in the rapidly developing renewable energy, waste to energy and nuclear sectors. We have particular experience in relation to renewable energy projects and PFI/PPP waste schemes, including the award winning Lancashire Waste PFI Project, one of the largest and most complex waste PFI projects to have reached financial close.

We have a particularly strong reputation for contaminated land issues. We have been involved in landmark environmental insurance and waste transactions, regeneration projects and nuisance claims for offsite migration. We are the sole UK environmental law partners for Groundwork’s ELUS and HASLUS service, an online legislation register used by customers including the Welsh Assembly and the Met Office. We provide training workshops nationally on the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme and Green Leases.
