Travel law solicitor Andrew Morton from Manchester solicitors, Pannone LLP, says an all inclusive hotel complex in the Dominican Republic is causing misery for holidaymakers as complaints of food poisoning and poor hygiene are being received from guests staying at the Holiday Village Golden Beach (formerly Occidental Allegro), Playa Dorada, Dominican Republic.

Guests are complaining of problems with the food provided and the buffet in particular, with food reportedly not properly heated or stored correctly.

Andrew Morton said, “We have had hundreds of complaints about similar problems in the Dominican Republic in previous years and now we’re getting them again. They seem to focus on mention of poor food preparation as a possible cause.”

Commenting further he said, “It does seem amazing that the same problems seem to reoccur year after year, with tour operators seemingly disregarding the complaints of their clients. It is important to remember to make your complaints to the local tour rep formal and keep as much evidence of the problems as possible. Photographs of poor facilities and receipts for medicines are useful, as are the names and addresses of other holidaymakers who were affected.”

Fortunately for British tourists seeking compensation, they have the benefit of powerful consumer legislation in the Package Travel Regulations 1992. These regulations entitle people to bring a claim for compensation against the holiday tour operator in the UK, under UK law.

Andrew Morton is a personal injury solicitor and a partner at Manchester law firm Pannone LLP. He specialises in no win, no fee compensation claims for ruined holidays and accidents on holiday.

Andrew is a member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and the Travel and Tourism Lawyers Association.
