Andrew's background is in the provision of legal services to consumers and insurers in the travel industry and has specialised in handling high value claims and group actions. He is a recognised ‘leader in the field’ in the current Chambers UK Guide where he is described as 'an incredibly talented and sharp commercial lawyer'.
Best career moment: Some years ago I acted on behalf of the widow of an engineer killed in an accident whilst working offshore in Singapore. The deceased was employed by a UK based agency for a Dutch company insured in Germany. His day to day work was subcontracted to a Singapore company. The case threw up so very difficult issues on jurisdiction and applicable law but we were able to settle on favourable terms with the defendants.
Andrew's current activities include the management of business strategies to meet the implementation of the Legal Services Act 2007 and the development of Alternative Business Structures.
Notable cases include:
- acting on behalf of the claimant in the reported case of Dawson-v-Broughton on applicable law
- acting for several hundred claimants in the 2005 and 2006 Dominican Republic tourist group actions
- acting on behalf of the claimants in the 2008 and 2009 Holiday Village, Turkey group actions
- acting for a group of claimants in the Lydenberg Coach Disaster, South Africa
Andrew is a member of the Travel and Tourism Lawyers association and the American Association for Justice.
Andrew qualified as a solicitor in 1990 and became a partner in 1993.
