Concerns that many criminals are suffering with the effects of undetected brain injuries have prompted experts to call for brain injury testing in Scottish prisons.

We have blogged before about the worrying link between brain injury and criminal behaviour.  Statistics prove that around half of the prison population have suffered damage to the brain caused by accidents and assaults.  Studies have also shown that criminals with brain injury are less likely to re-offend if given the right drugs to control their symptoms.

In response to this evidence, the Howard League Scotland, is calling for brain injury screening in Scottish prisons in an attempt to tackle re-offending rates.  The suggestion is that prisoners should be routinely scanned to check for undiagnosed brain damage.

Howard League Scotland has written to the chief executive of the Scottish Prison Service and await a response.

If you or a member of your family has suffered a brain injury in an accident, please call 0800 0384 384 for a no obligation discussion with one of our specialist serious injury lawyer.
