Tour operator pays out £10,000 for slip on floor in Spanish hotel
Date:
With the holiday season upon us British holidaymakers are packing their bags and enjoying the final preparations for that much anticipated summer holiday. For many of us a holiday abroad is a well deserved reward for working hard throughout the rest of the year.
It has therefore been heartbreaking to read recent reports of fatal accidents in many of the major tourist destinations including Spain, Turkey, Portugal and Cyprus.
Thankfully such fatalities are not a regular occurrence but as a specialist in travel law, I see the effects of accidents abroad on a daily basis.
I have recently just settled a case for a client whose holiday was ruined because of a slipping accident at a hotel in Benalmadena on the Costa del Sol, Spain. My client was walking through the hotel corridor when she suffered slipped on a greasy substance left on the floor by one of the hotel’s employees. My client suffered soft tissue injuries to her both her knee and hand which unsurprisingly ruined the remainder of her holiday for her and her family.
Fortunately I was able to assist her in pursuing a claim for compensation against the tour operator using the powerful Package Travel (etc) Regulations 1992. The Client recovered just under £10,000 for her personal injury and loss and was delighted with the result.
If you have fallen ill or been injured whilst on holiday in the UK or abroad then you could potentially claim for compensation.
