Generation Y - Divorce amongst the under 30s

The journalist and writer Fanny Blake, has this week published an article in the Daily Mail about the secrets to her long marriage

The journalist and writer Fanny Blake, has this week published an article in the Daily Mail about the secrets to her long marriage.

As part of her story, she refers to the fact that she was previously married, albeit briefly, in her early 20s, before divorcing.  She blames youth and ‘unrealistic expectations’ for the downfall of that marriage.

We have previously commented on the statistics which confirm that the divorce rate amongst the under 30s is rising.   With the advent of ‘Generation Y’, also known as the ‘Net Generation’, it likely that such unrealistic expectations will continue.  The culture of thinking differently about relationships, being motivated by different goals, does not always lead to a happy marriage.  Furthermore, advances in technology and methods of communication which do not rely upon face to face or even voice to voice contact, can, in our experience, on occasions hinder, rather than improve, relations in a marriage.

If you do find that you need advice on divorce or the resolution of financial matters following the breakdown of your relationship, it is important to take advice from a family law specialist who can explain to you the law, and the options available to you, to ensure the best possible outcome for you.
