Does marrying young risk an “Achy Breaky heart?”

This week, the Sydney Morning Herald questions whether Miley Cyrus is -at 19 years old- too young to marry.  Just how young is “too young” to say “I do”?

This week, the Sydney Morning Herald questions whether Miley Cyrus is -at 19 years old- too young to marry.  Just how young is “too young” to say “I do”?

Cyrus and her fiancé, Liam Hemsworth, should be enjoying the glow of their engagement, but the young couple instead find themselves having to defend their decision to marry at such a young age.

The Herald lists a number of well-known marriages that began, and ended, young - Angelina Jolie, then 21, to Jonny Lee Miller, then 23. Drew Barrymore, then 19, to bartender Jeremy Thomas. Solange Knowles, then 17, to Daniel Smith, then 19. Macauley Culkin and Rachel Miner married at the age of 17 and parted ways two years later.

Bearing in mind that the latest statistics published by the Office for National Statistics, confirm that the divorce rate in the UK amongst those in the 29-34 age bracket is one of the fastest growing of all the demographic groups, might the writer have a point?

Divorce is something which can affect a couple at any time and any age.  It can be an emotional and confusing time.  At Pannone, we understand the importance of securing clear and comprehensive legal advice about many important issues, from sorting out finances, to making arrangements for the children. We can also advise you of the various options available, to try and reach agreements without the need to involve the courts.
