Specialist abuse lawyer Richard Scorer with assistance from myself and Madelene Holdsworth is acting for a number of clients who were sexually abused by Father William Green whilst he was a teacher at St Bedes College in Whalley Range Manchester, mainly spanning the 1970s and 1980s. I am pleased to report that the one of these cases has just successfully concluded with our client receiving an undisclosed sum of between 15000 and 20000.
Many of the victims were boarders at the school and Father Green took advantage of this to befriend the boys, plying them with cigarettes and alcohol and encouraging them to come to his room. Some of the victims were bullied by others and thought Father Green was acting as their friend and protector. The abuse took place in the room over a number of years.
Many of the victims have been left psychologically traumatised and feel they underachieved in education and work as a result of the abuse. They were contacted by police in late 2007 following a complaint made by one of the victims which led to a number of victims being identified and contacted by police. Father Green pleaded guilty to 27 sexual offences against children, including myself, at Manchester Crown Court on 15th August 2008 and was sentenced to six years imprisonment on 1st October 2008.
