The work of trainees in our Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning team
This non-contentious area gives trainees a significant amount of client contact and allows trainees to take responsibility for matters from beginning to end. The type of work a trainee will get involved in includes:
- probate work - gathering financial information relating to an estate, drafting oaths, preparing inheritance tax papers and calculations, dealing with post-death variations of wills, liaising with the probate registry, preparing income tax returns, preparing estate accounts, liaising with the deceased's family members and making distributions
- wills - meeting with clients and taking instructions, considering tax implications, considering capacity issues, drafting wills, witnessing execution of wills
- trusts - taking initial instructions from clients, drafting trust deeds, drafting deeds of appointment and assisting with the ongoing management of trusts
- Powers of Attorney - considering capacity issues, meeting with clients, preparing power of attorney documentation, registering the power with the Public Guardianship Office
