As a trainee at Pannone, you will get substantial exposure to a variety of court work which is often complex and high profile. The work ranges from attending and assisting at court to conducting hearings.
For example:
- in the Personal Injury team you are often responsible for the issuing and serving of court proceedings and completing restoration hearings. You are involved in pre-action disclosure applications, case management conferences, infant approval hearings, coroner or jury inquests and trials on limitation, liability and quantum
- a seat in Court of Protection provides the opportunity to participate in approval hearings, best interest hearings and human rights trials which can then go on to the Supreme Court.
- in Corporate Recovery you will acquire experience in administration applications, bankruptcy hearings, winding up hearings and charging order applications
- court appearances are also very common in Employment and trainees will usually attend tribunal hearings with counsel, once a fortnight, on matters such as redundancy and discrimination
- working in the Family team entails court hearings and interim applications both in relation to financial proceedings for divorce, children act proceedings, occupation orders of the matrimonial home and non molestation orders
The opportunity to undertake court work all around the country of such variety and significance is both challenging and exciting. You will be involved in any follow up procedure, appeals and perhaps even setting precedents.
Interaction with counsel and experts
Interaction with counsel and experts is commonplace for trainees at Pannone. You are often responsible for liaising with, instructing and organising conferences. There is a great deal of opportunity to meet national leading counsel, attend conferences and watch them mediate, negotiate in joint settlement meetings, listen to them question experts and advise clients as to the merits of a case.
Reading and interpreting counsel’s advice and experts reports is great experience in getting to review documentary evidence and deciding how to progress the claim.
