Environmental Impact of Our Activities

Environmental Impact & Sustainability

Pannone’s Environment and Sustainability group draws from all areas of the practice and is the focus of the firm’s activities on environment and sustainability improvement.  The group drives achievement by setting policies and targets and we will be measuring and publishing our performance against those aims.

We take very seriously our responsibility to future generations.  We will seek to develop our business and meet its strategic aims without compromising the ability of those that come after us to do the same.

We wish to work in partnership with our clients and in keeping with their own sustainability targets.  We recognise that we can exercise influence over our employees, networks and suppliers in pursuing this strategy and that we should seek to do so wherever we practically can.  We see this sustainability strategy as being part of our business goals to produce the highest quality legal work with integrity.

Pannone aims to make progress in our sustainability strategy, ahead of any regulatory or compliance requirement, because it is both right and consistent with our position in our legal market place.

ISO 14001
ISO14001 is an international standard for an environmental management system which provides a process for controlling and improving our environmental performance.   The environmental management system is a way of ensuring the firm continually looks at all aspects of its business operations that do or could potentially have an impact on the environment, in particular in terms of pollution.  The standard includes compliance with environmental legislation.  In November 2011 we were awarded the international environmental standard ISO 14001.

Employee ‘Green Representatives’ and employee involvement
All our teams now have Green Representatives who are trained on environmental issues.  We are running a power saving competition between floors and have widespread recycling with the aim of reducing our waste to landfill significantly.

Green IT
We recognise that we have a responsibility to reduce the environmental impact for the benefit of the company, our staff and our clients.

Every action taken by Pannone has an impact on the natural environment in the form of energy consumption and waste - our carbon footprint. A large proportion of this consumption is generated by the Information Technology used.

This is why as a business function, IT will commit to the following:

  • actively look to reduce the amount of energy used by the existing infrastructure
  • look to consolidate systems where possible
  • reduce waste and ensure that any waste disposal is completed in a responsible manner
  • adhere to all relevant legislation
  • evaluate the supply chain and manufacturing environmental credentials during new purchases
  • publically communicate best practice and our achievements to positively influence others
  • monitor our carbon footprint and set targets for its reduction
  • build and maintain IT systems to aid the reduction of the firms overall carbon footprint
