It’s My Body
Posted by: Ashley Dee at 09:15

There was an interesting programme on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Law in Action’ programme last week that I thought might be worth a mention. It was discussing legal ownership of a body. It all sounds rather macabre, but the law in this area is actually rather macabre. If you asked some people on the street – as the programme in fact did – who owned their body once they had died and who owned pieces of thei...

Government Rules Out Lowering Cervical Screening Age to 20
Posted by: Gemma Harris at 16:38

The Government has decided that there should be no change to the age at which young women should be screened for cervical cancer in England.

It had been thought that the government may consider lowering the minimum age at which young women can request testing after the death of Jade Goody earlier this year from cervical cancer. The reality star was only 27 years old when she died and many b...

Genesis Walk
Posted by: Sarah Jones at 16:28

4 members of the Clinical Negligence team stepped out into the glorious Manchester sun on Sunday to take part in the Genesis ‘keep fit and pink’ 10km walk.

Hundreds of fundraisers took part in the walk, including Pannone’s Emma Holt, L...

In 43% of cases there was an “unacceptable delay” in diagnosing the condition while complications were missed altogether in 13% of cases. Dr James Stewart of the National Confidential Inquiry into Patient Outcome and Death has called this “a...

Homeopathy: A Waste of NHS Funds?
Posted by: Helen Budge at 10:04

I was interested to read this article in The Guardian last week. Unfortunately I missed the More4 news item that it refers to, but the headline of a £12m NHS spend on homeopathy is quite striking in itself, particularly in a week when NHS leaders were predicting a £15bn shortfall.

Homeop...

Men’s Health Week and cancer risks
Posted by: Gill Edwards at 15:49

I was concerned to read today about the quite shocking results of a study published by Cancer Research UK which concludes that men are 60% more likely than women to develop cancer and 70% more likely to die from it. Earlier today on Radio 4’s Today programme, I listened to Professor Alan White, one of the co-authors of the study and Professor of Men’s Health at Leeds Metropolitan University, and ...

A little thought…
Posted by: Sue Curley at 16:55

Time and time again we read newspaper articles about the sad and sorry state of some of our hospital wards, ranging from unsavoury substances left for days before being cleaned up, to not emptying waste bins, to a downright "couldn’t care less" attitude among some staff members.

We all know that there are the good and the not so good in any profession and staff shortages are undoubtedly a p...
