A national inquiry into the deaths of acute kidney failure patients in hospitals has found that 50% of the patients did not receive a good standard of care. In 43% of cases there was an “unacceptable delay” in diagnosing the condition while complications were missed altogether in 13% of cases. I was interested to read this article in The Guardian last week. Unfortunately I missed the More4 news item that it refers to, but the headline of a £12m NHS spend on homeopathy is quite striking in itself, particularly in a week when NHS leaders were predicting a £15bn shortfall. 16 June 2009

I was concerned to read today about the quite shocking results of a study published by Cancer Research UK which concludes that men are 60% more likely than women to develop cancer and 70% more likely to die from it.
