Denise Hendry Surgeon Still Operating Abroad
Posted by: Sarah Jones at 15:03
The Daily Telegraph has recently reported on the current practice of Gustaf Aniansson, the Swedish cosmetic surgeon previously sued for medical negligence and now linked to the death of Denise Hendry.
Denise was the wife of former footballer, Colin Hendry, and mother of four children. In April 2002 she underwent a liposuction procedure performed by Mr Aniansson at the private Broughton Park Hospital in Preston, Lancashire. Sadly Denise suffered nine bowel and colon punctures causing multiple organ failure. She fell into a coma for five weeks following the surgery but survived. She brought a successful clinical negligence case against Mr Aniansson, represented by the Hendry family’s solicitor, Stephen Jones, Partner and Clinical Negligence lawyer here at Pannone LLP. Sadly Denise continued to suffer from the consequences of the botched operation and passed away in 2009 at the age of 42. The circumstances of her death are currently under investigation.
Denise and 13 other women had complained to the General Medical Council about Mr Aniansson who then removed himself from the GMC’s register meaning that he could no longer practice in the UK and thus avoided any possible fitness to practice hearing which could have seen him struck off. However an undercover reporter for the Daily Telegraph has discovered that Dr Aniansson has set up in Sweden and, worryingly, is continuing to offer liposuction as well as other cosmetic procedures.
